The Buen Retiro Park or the Park of the Pleasant Retreat is the major park of Madrid. It is the most famous park in Madrid having a large area of 1.4 km or 350 acres. Buen Retiro Park is located at the edge in the center of the city nearby the Puerta de Alcala. This is the best park worth to visit during your Madrid travel. The park has been surrounded with impressive monuments, sculpture, tranquil lakes and galleries. It also been hosted several events, that makes Buen Retiro Park as the main attraction of Madrid. Part of the park’s sculptures and monuments include the monument of King Alfonso XII, the Rosaleda rose garden; within the alluring different roses stands the awesome fountain of the falling angel which was raised in 1922.

Another interesting artifact that you should see in Buen Retiro Park is the Museu del Ejercito and the Cason del Buen Retiro. They are actually the few remaining building of the Buen Retiro Palace. These remaining buildings are already been the sanctuary of the museum collections. The Cason housed the 19th and 20th century paintings, while the Ejercito is known not only in Madrid but all over Spain as the primary Army museums. The Ejercito houses the La Tizona which is the sword of the popular Spanish warrior El Cid.

Aside from the medieval façade and the monks, this place is still offering various interesting areas that you should not miss to visit.

Avila—this is the birthplace of the Spanish Mysticism and of the Santa Teresa. It holds various art treasures. The 11th Century walls are just one of the best examples of the medieval walled city. And the visible Gothic Cathedral that they have is considered as the oldest cathedral in Spain.
